Neues Album "Schwarz auf Grün"
On Friday, September 13, Jan SEVEN dettwyler released his 13th studio album with the melodious name “Schwarz auf Grün” (Black on Green).
Musically, you can hear a big development compared to his last German-language longplayer. The voice and the stories are finally firmly in the foreground and the songwriting is the spine of the sometimes still so playful musician in his 22nd year of work. Thanks to the collaboration with London producer Yoad (Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Sugababes), songs such as EGAL WAS DU TUST and HÖR MIR NOCH EINMAL ZU sound very European and dispense with flourishes and garnishes but not with the London symphony orchestra from the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Thanks to the man from Los Angeles John Van Nest (Michael Jackson, Prince, Chaka Kahn), some songs like EINE NACHT are pure soul and the German takes on a color that has rarely been heard before. Songs like KURZ AUF STOP show the joy of constantly evolving and the fruits of the songwriting sessions in the Parkhaus Studio Cologne. Whether Jan is writing with new people like Revelle, Nico Gomez, Martin Jungck, Benjamin Alasu, Teesy Tones or with old acquaintances like Rose Ann Dimalanta, Flo Mega, Massimo Buonanno or Kilian & Jo, one thing is very clear, the voice is always the center of attention and the music is the stage on which he sings his stories from his life and gets all the space his voice needs. This is exactly how Jan produced this album.
If you listen carefully, you can hear voices everywhere in the songs. Whether it's the beat underlaid with voices, horn lines, guitar parts, keyboard sounds, percussion or the many choirs, what you always hear is his voice. Jan stands at the microphone and sings in instruments and that has always been the case, but to use them not only as an idea and demo, but to build the production of the songs around it, was the green thread of this album.
Lyrically, Jan deals with a big break-up but also the moments that make everything light up again overnight in the darkest darkness. It is a very open and honest album that operates on the open heart. Painful and yet full of hope and humility. A journey from pain, uncertainty, passion to the moment when you realize that only your own light can show you what life has in store for you.
Jan has taken a big step and is very sure of his current identity and you can hear this clearly and it is written in black and green. You never know what tomorrow will bring and this musician has had to accept and embrace this in his life. This upheaval and finding himself and a new life makes this album very mature, secure and unique. Just like his voice, around which everything revolves and which, once you have heard it, is recognizable from all others.
The guest list of Johannes Oerding, Jalil, Toni L, NKSN still shows the balancing act between hip-hop, soul and pop. The album is rounded off with his version of Nothing Compares 2 U produced by Alex Christensen and the Berlin Orchestra. So here he is: jan SEVEN dettwyler...black on green
